Overview

Startup description

My product is an AI-powered stamp identifier for iPhone.

The idea is simple: take a photo of a stamp and the app tries to identify it, give you useful information about it, estimate its value, and help you save it into your personal collection.

I started it as an indie project because stamp identification felt like a perfect use case for modern image AI. There are huge amounts of stamps in private collections, inherited albums, flea market finds and old boxes, but figuring out what a specific stamp actually is can still involve a lot of manual research.

I wanted to make that process much easier.

Instead of searching through catalogs or websites, you photograph the stamp and get a result directly on your phone.

Over time, I expanded the app beyond identification. Users can now build their own digital stamp collection, organize stamps, save information, track estimated values, sync data through iCloud and export their collection.

The app is currently available for iPhone and iPad.

Business model: subscriptions + lifetime purchase.

Key highlights

There are no employees, offices, inventory, logistics or complicated operations behind it.

The main value of the project is the existing product and infrastructure:

Finished native iOS app

Existing App Store listing

Existing users and customers

Working subscription system

AI stamp identification

AI-assisted value estimation

Digital stamp collection

iCloud synchronization

PDF and CSV export

Existing website

Brand and App Store assets

Existing codebase

The app has already gone through many iterations, so a buyer would not be starting with an MVP or unfinished prototype.

The core product works and can simply continue to be developed, optimized and marketed.

Team

The app is a solo indie project.

I built and operate the project myself.

There is no team that needs to be transferred or retained after an acquisition.

I currently handle:

Product development

iOS development

AI integrations

UI and UX

App Store optimization

App Store screenshots

Pricing and monetization

Website

SEO

Customer feedback

Product strategy

Maintenance

The project was intentionally built to stay lightweight.

A buyer with basic iOS development knowledge should be able to take over the technical side directly. Alternatively, maintaining the app could easily be handled by a freelance iOS developer.

There are no complicated internal processes or company dependencies attached to the app.

Tech stack

Swift / SwiftUI

The main application is built natively for Apple's ecosystem.

This includes the interface, navigation, collection management and most of the application logic.

SwiftData

Used for storing and managing the user's stamp collection and related information.

iCloud

Users can synchronize their collection between Apple devices.

StoreKit

Used for subscriptions and lifetime purchases.

Apple camera APIs

Used for photographing stamps directly inside the app.

AI image analysis

The core identification feature sends the photographed stamp through an AI-based analysis workflow.

The system attempts to extract and understand information such as:

Country

Year

Stamp type

Series

Visible text

Currency

Condition

Historical context

Estimated value

Potentially interesting characteristics

Export

Users can export their collection as PDF or CSV files.

The overall stack is intentionally simple.

There is no large backend architecture that needs constant maintenance.

Marketing and growth

Growth so far has mostly been product-driven and App Store-driven.

Because the app solves a very specific problem, users can understand the value proposition almost immediately.

There is still a lot that could be done here.

I have not built a huge marketing machine around the app.

That is actually one of the more interesting parts of the acquisition opportunity.

Revenue and profit

The app generates revenue through in-app purchases.

The current monetization system includes recurring subscriptions as well as a lifetime purchase.

Because this is an indie software project, the operating structure is extremely lean.

There are no employees and almost no traditional overhead.

The main running costs are things like:

AI usage

Apple fees

Website / hosting

Software services

Optional advertising

Detailed financial information can be provided privately to serious buyers.

I prefer not to publish detailed revenue, subscriber, CAC or retention numbers publicly.

The important thing from an acquisition perspective is that the project does not require a large operational structure to continue running.

Return on investment

The app is probably most interesting for a buyer who already operates consumer apps, AI products or apps in collectible niches.

The buyer does not have to spend time building the initial product.

The app, brand, AI workflow, App Store listing, subscriptions and website already exist.

That means the acquisition is mainly a question of growing an existing asset rather than financing development from zero.

The biggest potential upside would likely come from better distribution.

Startup assets

Swift / SwiftUI codebase

Stamp identification flow

AI integration

Collection management

iCloud functionality

Subscription system

Lifetime purchase

Export functionality

Camera functionality

Existing UI

Existing onboarding

Existing paywall

Summary

The app is a small but complete indie app built around a very straightforward problem:

Take a photo of a stamp and find out what it is.

What started as an AI identification tool has grown into a broader stamp collecting app with identification, valuation, digital collections, cloud synchronization and exports.

✅ $8,100 TTM revenue

✅ 100 customers

✅ Business model: SaaS

✅ Built with Swift, SwiftUI
