Overview

The Story - Solving my own problem

I am the creator of online courses and other educational products, all of which are video-based.

I remember it like it was yesterday when someone pointed out to me that in my videos I say “umm” and “ahh” too much.

But I like to record spontaneously. I don’t want to waste time memorizing everything.

I also remember the time I forgot to plug in the right microphone, and the sound quality was awful.

Or when I moved to an almost empty house, and even with a good microphone, my recordings had terrible echo.

I used to get frustrated because I had to manually find those parts and cut them out or look for a tool that could fix the audio.

Then I had my “aha” moment. None of the solutions out there satisfied me. I didn’t need an editor full of sliders where everything had to be done manually, even if some AI was involved.

I wanted something where I could just upload a video file, and it would come out “clean.” That’s it.

Many tools claim to do something similar. But there’s one problem. They do it poorly and are filled with unnecessary features, making them expensive.

So I ran some fake door tests to gauge interest in the product. If people are adding it to their cart, it means there's some willingness to buy.

I invited a programmer friend to collaborate, and after just under three months of part-time work, we had an MVP of a web app and a solution that I use myself!

For people who create videos and spend too much time preparing them, or those just starting out who think they need expensive equipment, or simply made a mistake or had poor recording conditions, my product solves their problem.

Pushing the app to the market

I managed to get three paying customers in the Polish market through organic efforts and posts in Facebook groups. The only costs involved were variable, based on how much users utilized the app. Unfortunately, all three clients canceled their subscriptions because they currently don’t need to edit any videos. So getting more clients requires more effort.

Usability tests

After completing the MVP, I conducted five full-scale usability tests in the form of in-depth interviews and gathered a lot of feedback and ideas on how to improve the app. The tests confirmed that the problem exists and that users are genuinely interested in using the app.

Business model

The initial business model is based on a subscription, but other models are possible, such as pay-per-use or even lifetime access. I have precise calculations regarding the break-even point. Even one regular paying customer using the app’s limits brings profit. Additionally, selling the app to companies or other digital solutions related to video editing as a white-label product is also an option.

Current status

Unfortunately, my programmer friend no longer has time to continue developing the app. The app has some limitations regarding the file size that can be edited, but I know exactly how to fix it; I just don’t have the programming skills to do it myself.

Why I’m selling this app

The reason is simple: I don’t have the skills to further develop the app, and I haven’t found the right person to join me in this project. So I’ve decided to shift my focus to projects where I can be more independent.

What's included in the asking price:

Expenses
Editing a 2-hour video costs $9.44 (cost of external services used through API), so when the price for the basic plan (2-hour video editing limit) is ~$19, the margin is about 50%. Additionally, you need to account for the annual cost of the domain and server, which is ~$50.
Business Model
Subscription model: three pricing plans, each plan is profitable.
Target Audience
My target customers are people who create video content but have no skills related to video editing and do not want to spend time learning advanced tools. They only want to improve the most important elements of their video and quickly share the video.
Asking Price Reasoning
The price is the the cost of developer time needed to build the application in its current scope. Moreover, with this price, you get the MVP ready for further promotion, results of UX tests, a business case, and my advice after completing the transaction.
Reason for Selling
As I mentioned, I don’t have the skills to further develop the app, and I haven’t found the right person to join me in this project. So I’ve decided to shift my focus to projects where I can be more independent.
Growth Opportunity
The app primarily requires full marketing and a transition to a more professional technology stack to overcome the current limitations. The app has been minimally promoted on the Polish market, but launching it globally will bring much better results.
